Kinda Cool...

Random info I found online about where I come from....

"So I was talking to a friend of mine who happens to be from Nevada City. And it turns out that in addition to being the hometown of the lovely and talented Joanna Newsom, it's other claim to fame is that it is the seat of Nevada County. "And...?" you ask? Well, turns out that Nevada City was settled in 1849, 15 years before the state of Nevada. "And...?" Well, when Nevada decided to call itself "Nevada", the good folks of Nevada City got pissed off at having had their thunder stolen, as it were, so they drew their county line to resemble a pistol aimed point blank at the name-stealing state of Nevada. "Really?!" Yes!

Thought that was a crack up! Who does these things? Hahaha

Pictures

I have a photo fixation!!!!!
Whew it felt good to get that out. So I'm excited becuase I finally found a site that works well for all of my pictures.
check it out if you are interested at...
http://aengle.smugmug.com
I'm not completely done yet but that is the result of all of my spring break work. Whew!

Andy's internship with the Oakland Athletics is going really well for him. He's been getting a lot of recognition on his camera work so maybe something good will come of that. I never see the guy anymore but it's a good experience for him :) Although I might not have seen him much anyhow because I have a lot on my plate with 50 plus pages due in a few weeks. Procrastination sucks! Graduation is just around the corner. I can almost taste it!
hmmmm.... maybe I should take my own hint and get back to it :) take care.

Pride comes before the fall

I'm so bummed right now. The last few weeks have been a blur with mid-terms papers and excessive readings. Then today was my last day before spring break and I finally got back my first grade on all of my work this semester. It stunk when I saw a big fat B-/C+ was circled in Red on the last page. My Prof. had very few corrections on the paper but told me I had a few week spots (luckily no holes). I did talk to a few other people and no one got anything higher than a C- but that doesn't mean that everyone in the class didn't get a grade higher than that. I'm feeling very dumb right now. Luckily he is giving us extra credit options but I hate not doing well from the start. Oh well. I guess in it's own way my B- is incentive to try harder and prove I can succeed.

Other than that my Birthday was fun! Andy took me to a hotel downtown and then I got some birthday clothes. What is it about shopping that can make me happy? In the remake of "A star is Born," starring Judy Garland, she explains that when anything big happens in her life, good or bad, she washes her hair. That is me and shopping... just not as regularly because clothes are a bit more expensive than shampoo. haha.

Next week is spring break and I am heading home to my parent's house for some R&R! My mom teaches English at the High School so maybe she can proof my finals.

Hopefully everyone has a great Easter Sunday! And if you were doing Lent- have a wonderful feast of whatever you held off on. I'm keeping my Lent up for a little while longer. It was nice to cut out TV so I'll keep at it.
God Bless!

Birthday and Lists

I'm turning 28 on March 22nd and it so happens to be the last day of my finals. YAY! (about the end of finals not my birthday)
Other than that I have a preoccupation with Lists in my life. My Dad started it when I was little when he would say while we were driving to "get out my breifcase and get an envelope". I loved being the note taker and it stuck..... Enjoy :)

Slacker me: it's thematic

Well I am a horrible blogger but I have a very good exscuse-- Life is just too fast for me to keep up with! I have a few fun pictures that I took within the last week though...

We had some rain around here so one day I started playing around with my new Camera:

Right after I took this picture I saw the most surreal thing. This group of yellow and red balloons floated slowly up the middle of the street (like they were walking in the rain or something). So strange but I thought it belonged in a movie- not my front yard.

My sister and brother-in-law gave me these bowls and I thought they looked photogenic:

That's just a few of the massive amounts of photos I have been taking. Sorry If I disappointed anyone but I have resigned myself to be the tortoise and just keep pluggin' slowly away at this until I graduate in May. Can't WAIT!!!!!!

Digital Camera + Photoshop = hours of fun!

Oh My goodness I am loving it! Here is the fun I've been working on:
This first one is called "gothic glow" in photoshop: It was This New Year's day when we visited Disneyland with my fam.

This is "Duotone Dream"

"Midnight black"

We took this one last night and I pimped it with Urban... something rather. Below is my good friend Liza and I as we were headed out for dinner and drinks.

So there is that craziness! I wish I had a better idea of how photoshop worked. I wonder if they teach classes or if there is an online tutoring I could buy.

Other than that my first day of subbing went fairly well. Only problem was licensing showed up and they had a burr in their saddle. (They usually do). I never anticipated that on my first day but I'm pro so it went fine. haha :)
Well ya'll- take care! (I'm feeling very cowgirlish ritght now with my burr in the saddle and using "Ya'll" -Strange. haha).

Book Club

It's the New Year and a resolution was in order- so I joined a book club! Not that I am not doing enough reading as it is, but this is recreational and will broaden my horizons. The first book is called the Sportswriter. Actually, I had never heard of it so I am excited about something new and invigorating. I need an invigorated new year!

Another new thing in my life is my job. I had to quit working at the Preschool, that I had worked at for 5+ years, in order to get a job closer to San Francisco (An hour and a half drive is less than ideal haha). So I am going to be subbing at schools in this area and nearby districts which works very well with my schedule. I think what I am most excited about is getting experience with multiple schools and learning new techniques for teaching.

Lastly, my husband has told me he is going to teach me how to use Photo Shop! You see I am great at paper scrapbooking yet am clueless as to how to digitally scrap. I can't wait! Plus he promised me a digital camera very soon! (I think he is actually doing himself a favor because it will save us money in the long run). It's sad how technically unadvanced I am. :)

So here's to a new year full of new things! Cheers!

Winter Break!

Ahhhhhhhh I am being so LAZY right now. I have a paper to write but I just can't stop with the computer and a good book. Oh and I have a million and one pictures I downloaded today so I guess I will post those here (I filled up my myspace).
The first picture is of my leaning tower of books that I used on my term papers. Can you see why I'm not interested in writing anymore?
Numero dos is of my new ADOREABLE little nephew Nathan. Andy and I gave him his little froggy towel for his birthday (his very 1st birthday, that is).
Last is my man Andrew and I at Disneyland for New Year's day.

ENJOY!

wordless chorus

Sometimes I wish that all the words that I have for Bull&%$# could be transfered into something meaningful. You see my brother-in-laws father just died this weekend (they think of a heart attack) and I have no idea what to say to him when the time is right. If it was a girlfriend of mine or my brother then I might have an easier time- but with this I have no idea. Bummer. I think the thing that sadens me the most is that his father died without meeting his brand new grandson (my nephew -who I ADORE). I just don't see the fairness in life. I guess that's why it's called life. This also makes me think of how I would handle loosing one of my parents. I wouldn't be able to. That's a fact- there would be much more insanity in my life than there already is. I hope I can figure out a way to show him I care.

I watched "Gentlemen's agreement" tonight with Andrew and I was very impressed with the movie. I have always been a fan of 50's type movies because of the romanticism that they are saturated with but this one had a realistic flaire about it. And oh boy was Gregory Peck hot when he was younger. Well on that note I think I have established I am tired :) Night

Happy New Year!

A year has gone by and I have been thinking about updating this guy. At the very least so as I can force myself to keep my writing flow. My classes have gone well and my GPA is slowly creeping up much to my delight. Although I have had the bad fortune of having a retiring teacher each semester that doesn't seem to give a flying *&$%. It has resulted in a B- both times and you have no idea what a B- does to me. On the whole though I have enjoyed all my classes. Each class teaches me something new (yeah I know that's the point) and I find myself feeling dumber the more I learn. How strange it has been to find out how big the world really is and at the same time how connected everything is. I'm still trying to make all of the connections.
I am taking a Shakespeare class over the winter break and can I just say- I LOVE IT! I never knew how much I could appreciate the man. I think it helped that this last summer I went to Santa Cruz with my friend Dena to see Shakespeare in the Redwoods. We bought a glass of wine and a Portobello Mushroom sandwich each and then trekked down to the outside theatre. It was a well done production and I think that it started this new found appreciation for Shakespeare. I added to my "100 things to do before I kick the bucket" list- a trip to see a Shakespearian play in the actual Globe theatre. I have been by it twice but not yet been in it. Well that is all for now but it is good to be back.
